Most Problems Give You Clues Before They Become Emergencies.
Most people move through parking lots, stores, hotels, workplaces, and public spaces on autopilot. Phones, schedules, and routine compete for attention. When something changes, they may notice it too late to make the easiest decision.
Situational awareness is not about expecting danger everywhere. It is the ability to understand what is normal, recognize what has changed, and choose a calm response while you still have options.
What you will learn
A Practical System You Can Use the Same Day
- How attention works—and why distraction creates avoidable risk
- How to establish a baseline and recognize meaningful changes
- How to identify behavioral and environmental warning signs
- How to maintain awareness without appearing anxious or suspicious
- How to use distance, positioning, exits, and barriers to preserve options
- How to make simple decisions before a situation becomes urgent
- How to apply awareness in parking areas, public places, travel, work, and home routines

Real-World Experience. Practical Civilian Instruction.
Gary Silverthorn brings more than 20 years of military service as a U.S. Marine and Army Ranger, including leadership as a Ranger First Sergeant, followed by 15 years supporting organizations and teams in austere and high-risk environments. He has also served as a corporate security leader, business executive, leadership consultant, and firearms instructor for more than 25 years.
This seminar translates that experience into clear, responsible skills civilians can use in ordinary life. The purpose is not to turn students into security professionals. It is to help them notice more, think sooner, and make better decisions.
